Factoid
By the end of tomorrow, we’ll know just how historically terrible Arizona’s and Detroit’s are.
With one game left, these defenses are within range of possibly allowing more passing and rushing touchdowns than any team since the league moved to the 16-game schedule in 1978.
The Lions are the closest. If they allow 2 rushing TDs at Green Bay, they’ll become the first team to give up 32 rushing touchdowns in a season. It is less likely Arizona will go down as having the leakiest pass defense – they would need to allow 3 TD passes in their final game to tie the record for passing touchdowns.
One team, by the way, appears on both of the following lists – the 1981 Baltimore Colts, who gave up an eye-popping 67 touchdowns in 1981 (over 4 per game).
