No sack in Kansas City

Posted Jan. 23 at 11:39 PM

You can't spell Kansas City without s-a-c-k-s, but you wouldn't know it by the team's actual performance. Kansas City's post-Jared Allen pass rush wasn't just bad -- it was all-time bad.

The team recorded only 10 sacks last year, an NFL record since the league went to a 16-game season. The previous low was 11, by the Baltimore Colts back in 1982, and even that needs to be qualified: that was a strike-shortened season. (The Colts also held the 16-game record of 13, set in 1981.) About the best you can say for Kansas City is that they were one of only three terrible pass rushes from last season. The Browns and Bengals, with just 17 sacks apiece, also recorded one of the lowest totals for a 16-game season in history.

The lowest sack totals since the league went to a 16-game season are presented below.

1987 Miami Dolphins 21
1991 Cincinnati Bengals 21
1993 Indianapolis Colts 21
2002 Arizona Cardinals 21
