Rookie tight ends came up big last year.
Since the NFL went to a 16-game season 30 years ago, 78 tight ends have been selected with first- or second-round draft picks. As you can see in the chart below, John Carlson and Dustin Keller are among only five tight ends from that group who’ve caught 48-plus passes in their first season.
Notice that the previous year’s draft, which included Zach Miller and Greg Olsen, wasn’t too shabby either. Those guys also rank in the top dozen on this list.
