Around the NFL
I’m not sure exactly what’s going on in the league right now.
New England traded Matt Cassel (plus Mike Vrabel) to Kansas City for just a high second-round draft pick – seemingly a low haul for the Patriots. At the same time, it’s being reported that Denver tried to trade a first-round pick for Cassel.
The Broncos, according to a report in The Denver Post, wanted to trade Jay Cutler to Tampa Bay for the 19th pick in the first round. Then they intended to trade that selection to New England for Cassel.
Why, then, would the Patriots trade Cassel to Kansas City for the 34th pick of the draft?
And are the Broncos really try to trade Cutler. New coach Josh McDaniels admits as much. "He's not the only person in the last few days we've received calls on," McDaniels said.
And it seems like there’s a good chance Cutler will still be moved.
"I'm upset. I mean I'm really shocked at this point," Cutler says. "I could see why they want Cassel. I don't know if they think I can't run the system or I don't have the skills for it. I just don't get it. Or if they don't think they can sign me with my next contract. I just don't know what it is. I've heard I'm still on the trading block."

Stuned. Am I the only one who considers Cutler a top 5 qb? And they are still trying to trade him?

I'm equally stunned. I understand, given the Josh McDaniel-Matt Cassel connection, why they might have entertained such thoughts for a minute. But to damage your relationship with one of the few legitimate young, franchise QBs in the league and not get a deal done -- plus there's no one else out there -- is incredibly stupid. If I were a Broncos fan I'd be dumbfounded at this stuff, and it's hard to blame Cutler for being upset. As a Cutler owner in my dynasty league, meanwhile, I'm wondering where his future is better: Denver, Detroit, Tampa Bay. A year ago I'd have said Denver, easily, but now I'm not so sure. It looks like they don't know what they're doing.

I REALLY do not understand this. The Bronco offense is nearly complete, why would they risk their continuity/cohesiveness with this idiocy? Marshall is a stud, Royal was my darkhorse pick for ROY last season, and Cutler was in my top 5 fantasy QBs as well. All they need is a stud HB or a monster FB to complement the talent that they do have (probably a better option w/ the FB) and they roll over the weak AFC West! Nonsensical...

Oops, forgot to mention Scheffler. Exponentially stupid.

Cutler and the Broncos will never be the same. He wants to move now. And B Marshall just got arrested again, potentially forcing a league suspension. The Broncos' offense was on its way to stardom - just needed a solid RB - now they are falling apart. And as a Raider fan, I love every bit of it ;)
