How much did the Bengals miss Carson Palmer last year?
The team averaged 91 fewer passing yards per game and finished with 15 fewer touchdown passes.
Fill-in Ryan Fitzpatrick just didn’t have the same kind of ability to throw downfield. Consider the average yards-per-catch of the team’s wide receivers. In 2007, Cincinnati’s wide receivers averaged 12.3 yards per catch. Last year, with Palmer out, the wide receivers dipped down to only 9.8 yards per reception.
That mark of 9.8 yards is the lowest by any team in the last 10 years. It’s also a full yard lower than all but two of the other 316 teams in that time period.
