Ravens sign L.J. Smith

Posted Mar. 17 at 10:11 AM

The Ravens have signed free agent tight end L.J. Smith, according to The Baltimore Sun.

It's supposedly a one-year deal for $1.5 million.

Not sure what this means for Todd Heap. I think Heap will still be on the team and the team's primary pass catcher at that position. The Ravens almost exclusively use sets with multiple tight ends, so I think there's room for both of them.

The one curious thing is that neither Smith or Heap is much of a blocker, and the Ravens do like to emphasize the running game.
