The University of Georgia's Pro Day was one of many held yesterday, giving the school's athletes a chance to show off their abilities for NFL scouts in a home setting.
Given that the school has arguably the top quarterback (Matthew Stafford) and top running back (Knowshon Moreno) available in April's draft, among other prospects, it was a popular one -- representatives from all 32 NFL teams were on hand.
Moreno was hoping to improve on his official 40 time from the NFL combine (officially, 4.62), but it didn't happen. Moreno ran a 4.63 40-yard dash; ideally, he'd have been down at 4.50. He's not fast, and while that doesn't mean he won't be a good pro -- the guy looks pretty fast in game action, and is clearly a talented, versatile runner and receiver -- it could definitely affect his draft status. Running backs with 4.6 40 times aren't likely to be top-10 picks. The fact that Moreno will still likely be the top runner drafted just highlights the fact that this running back class isn't as highly rated as last year's. There will probably be fewer impact rookies than a year ago.
Stafford, who could be the draft's first overall pick, was reportedly pretty impressive, completing 45 of 50 pass attempts (with two drops) during his drills, according to Chip Towers of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. His account of Georgia's Pro Day can be seen right here. No one will be surprised if Stafford goes to Detroit with the first overall pick.

Do you guys have the forty times for T.Davis,E.Smith,W.Payton etc? When my dynasty rookie draft starts there are many things to consider and sometimes I'm not so sure about forty times. For the true fantasy fanatic I recommend dynasty play. It goes on 24/7. Makes the wife madder than H*ll! Hee,Hee

Duane, if you dig around on the Internet you can find times for various players throughout history. One problem though is that they haven't always timed players the same way. It used to all be with stopwatches, then they started using electronic timing at the end of the run -- inconsistent. Anyway, a poor 40 time doesn't necessarily mean a player will be a bad pro or bad fantasy player; Terrell Davis, for instance, ran around a 4.7 40 (and of course didn't get drafted until the 6th round). In the case of Moreno, I think he'll be a good pro if he's drafted into a good situation, but that 40 time will probably hurt him on draft day -- have teams wondering if he has the speed to hit holes or pull away from defenders.
