NFL -- TO opens against Brady

Posted Mar. 23 at 06:44 AM

The league has announced some of its marquee games for 2009.

As has become tradition, the Super Bowl champions will open the season with a Thursday night game -- Titans at Steelers.

The first Sunday night game will feature the Bears at the Packers.

And the initial Monday night game will be a pair of AFL games (with 2009 being the 50th anniversary season of that league) -- Bills at Patriots and Chargers at Raiders.

The initial games were announced at the annualNFL owners meetings.

Supposedly, in the AFL reunion games, all four teams will wear throwback uniforms. It will be interesting to see if the Raiders throw it all the way back to 1960 for that game -- the team wore black helmets that year.

I am disappointed that the Bills are playing at New England. I would have prefered to see that game at Orchard Park -- make it more competitive. Buffalo has lost 11 in a row to the Patriots, and its offense hasn't scored 2 TDs in any of those games.

The league also announced the Thanksgiving Day game. It will be Green Bay at Detroit, Oakland at Dallas, and the Giants at Denver.
