Best, worst of goal-line runners

Posted Jul. 15 at 03:31 AM

Who says that you have to be a big back to be a successful runner at the goal line?

When the ball was on the 1-yard line last year, the two running backs who were perfect – scoring on all of their carries – were both smaller guys (DeAngelo Williams and Maurice Jones-Drew. Dominic Rhodes and Kevin Smith were also effective in that area, and neither of those guys is a big bruiser either.

(Not that big guys can’t also be effective in this area. LenDale White, LeRon McClain and T.J. Duckett also did well in this area).

The below chart shows all players who had at least 4 carries when the ball was on the 1-yard line.
