It looks certain that Jay Cutler will be traded within a few weeks -- certainly by the NFL draft.
Owner Pat Bowlen today says that the Broncos now are beginning the process of finding a trading partner for their disgruntled quarterback.
"Numerous attempts to contact Jay Cutler in the last 10 days, both by head coach Josh McDaniels and myself, have been unsuccessful," Bowlen said in a statement printed in The Denver Post. "A conversation with his agent (Bus Cook) earlier today clearly communicated and confirmed to us that Jay no longer has any desire to play for the Denver Broncos. We will begin discussions with other teams in an effort to accommodate his request to be traded."
All that needs to be done now is to sit back and see where he lands. The Lions certainly are an interesting possibility. One would think they would give up the No. 1 pick overall for Cutler -- maybe they first see if they can get him for the No. 20 pick.
The Browns, with the Brady Quinn bait, are another intriguing possibility. And a bunch of other teams no doubt will be interested -- definitely the Jets, 49ers and Bucs. Maybe the Jaguars will try to pull off a Cutler-for-David-Garrard swap.
As weirdly as Cutler has behaved in the last month, other teams may want to sit down and speak with him at length before pulling the trigger on a mega-trade.
This one is going to be interesting.
