DeAngelo Williams -- run vs. rec

Posted Jul. 23 at 04:40 AM

DeAngelo Williams last year actually averaged slightly more yards on running plays than receptions. Officially 5.55 yards on runs and 5.50 yards on his 22 receptions.

This has happened with only six other running backs in the last 10 years (among players, that is, with at least 1,000 total yards).

  Run  Rec
  4.8  4.8  1999  Stephen Davis, Wash.
  4.2  4.0  2003  Anthony Thomas, Chi.
  4.3  3.9  2005  Rudi Johnson, Cin.
  4.1  4.1  2005  Cadillac Williams, T.B.
  4.5  4.3  2006  Travis Henry, Tenn.
  5.1  4.8  2007  Ryan Grant, G.B.
  5.5  5.5  2008  DeAngelo Williams, Car.

I will also add, however, that Williams is a much better receiver than any of those other six guys. They all had terrible hands. Williams actually catches the ball pretty well, and he’s very explosive after the catch. In his first two years in the pros, Williams averaged 9.5 and 7.6 yards per catch, on 56 total receptions.
