Kurt Warner / fewer sacks

Posted May. 05 at 02:49 PM

I like the way Ken Whisenhunt, in his first two years in Arizona, has done a better job of protecting Kurt Warner. By having him get rid of the ball sooner on more plays, the Cardinals have reduced the amount of punishment he takes (and with a quarterback in his late 30s, you don’t want him taking many hits).

Look at the sack numbers below, which are adjusted to account for the varying number of pass attempts. Under Whisenhunt, Warner has been sack an average of once per every 24 pass plays. Those are the best numbers of his career, and less than half as often as he was sacked in his final season in St. Louis.
