Brett Favre is going to have surgery this week. Or wait, no, he's just going to meet with Dr. James Andrews to discuss surgery. What's that? Oh no, he's still hoping to avoid surgery. Stay tuned for the next report including wild speculation and dubious accuracy.
First came a St. Paul Pioneer Press report that indicated Favre would meet with orthopedist James Andrews to discuss surgery (see it, if you want, right here.) Later, The New York Post picked up the story but made what appeared to be a dramatic leap by saying "Favre will have surgery, sign with Vikings" in this story.
The latest comes from ESPN's Ed Werder; those paying attention over the past year know that a lot of ESPN's information seems to come from Favre. According to Werder, there's no meeting with Andrews and no imminent surgery. Assuming Favre is interested in a comeback, it sounds like he's still hoping to avoid surgery. Werder's story can be read right here.
In short, if you've got a draft coming up, using a last-round pick on Favre seems reasonable, and if you've got him in a dynasty league, you may as well hang onto him. But there seems to be a lot more fiction surrounding a Favre comeback these days than fact.
