Palmer not counting on -- or welcoming? -- Ochocinco

Posted May. 20 at 10:59 PM

Chad Ochocinco -- the former Chad Johnson -- doesn't have nearly the trade value he had a year ago, when the Bengals reportedly turned down a first-round pick and potentially an additional first-rounder from Washington. Too bad for Cincinnati, with their own quarterback sounding like he'd just as soon the team move on without him.

"It‘s definitely a new look for the Bengals receiver corps but I couldn't be happier with the guys we've got,” Carson Palmer said yesterday. “T.J.’s (Houshmandzadeh) gone and Chad's pretty much gone, he hasn't been here, so we've got guys that want those two spots, guys that compete day in and day out. They look every bit capable of doing what we're going to ask them to do.”

Palmer went on to say that Chris Henry has "kind of taken over Chad's position and he's a guy that, like I said earlier, does not want to give up that spot right now.”

Given that Ochocinco's trade value has decreased, he'll probably be back with the Bengals for training camp. But will he be a No. 1 receiver? His quarterback wants to move on, the talented Chris Henry (who according to Palmer has "turned his life around") is working in his spot, plus the team signed Laveranues Coles to take the other starting job. Tough to foresee a bounce-back season from Ochocinco.

The story, from the Cincinnati Enquirer's Bengals beat writer Joe Reedy, can be seen right here. .
