Steve McNair shot dead in Nashville

Posted Jul. 04 at 07:34 AM

Former NFL co-MVP Steve McNair has been killed in an apparent double homicide, according to multiple media reports.

Says Titans owner Bud Adams at the team's web site:

"We are saddened and shocked to hear the news of Steve McNair's passing today. He was one of the finest players to play for our organization and one of the most beloved players by our fans. He played with unquestioned heart and leadership and led us to places that we had never reached, including our only Super Bowl. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family as they deal with his untimely passing."

McNair was 36. Originally selected when the franchise was in Houston, he spent most of his time as a pro with the Titans before winding up with the Ravens late in his career. He quarterbacked the team to the 2000 Super Bowl game against the Rams.

I know he wasn't a special fantasy talent, but McNair helped me win my 3rd and 4th league championships in 1999 and 2002. He was my good luck charm. I hated to read what happened to him.

It's obvious that a jealous husband or boyfriend went crazy. It's sad that these things happen.

I never saw a tougher player with more heart than Steve McNair. He was a true warrior on the football field and laid it all on the line every gameday for his team and all NFL fans.
