Throwing another stat package at you.
Below are the passing stats for each team inside the 10. I’ve got them ordered by the percentage of pass plays, including sacks, that wound up going for scores. And by “scores”, I mean both touchdowns and 2-point conversions. In this table, a 2-yard pass for a 2-point conversion is judged to be the same as a 2-yard pass for a TD – I’m just looking at the effectiveness of quarterbacks at getting the ball into the end zone.
These are entirely home-cooked numbers. The NFL doesn’t consider 2-point conversions to be official stats (they’re not included in passing totals). But for fantasy purposes, we think they’re relevant. So we just totaled up all plays inside the 10-yard line ourselves.
Best teams at scoring on passes inside the 10: Packers, Colts and Cowboys. The worst were the Panthers, Rams and Texans. Note that Houston appears low on the list despite completing over 66 percent of its passes (over the entire field). And why was it that Carolina committed more money to Jake Delhomme? That’s him at the bottom.
