Around the NFL
There's been some speculation during the offseason that Kevin Jones, now more than a year and half removed from ACL surgery, would have a larger role in the offense this year, carving into Matt Forte's role. Based on an interview with coach Tim Spencer at the team's web site, it sounds like a legitimate concern.
In the interview, which can be seen at this link, Spencer praises Forte. But he also notes, "We’re going to have to use Kevin Jones some more to ensure that both of them are as healthy as they can be by the end of the season. .... It’s up to us to get him on the field, and he will get on the field. It would be nice to develop a 1-2 punch."
This all might not mean much; Forte certainly proved last year that he's a three-down player, and he's still going to be the guy. Still, it makes sense -- after Forte's 379 touches last year -- that the team would look to lighten his load a bit.
Such talk shouldn't necessarily affect Forte's draft position, but it certainly makes sense for those who draft him to spend a late-round pick on the now-healthy Jones.
