Around the NFL
Brett Favre has informed the Minnesota Vikings he'll remain retired, according to multiple media outlets.
The news is surprising, given that it seemed certain he'd return as recently as a week ago. It's also hard to consider it "final," given how often Favre has changed his mind in recent years.
For now, though, it appears he'll remain in retirement. It's not hard to imagine a scenario where a team suffers a preseason injury and talks him into coming back, or one where Favre himself simply changes his mind again, but for now there's little choice but to take him at his word: don't draft him unless you want to take an absolute last-round flier.
I have Favre in a dynasty league, and I suspect I'll hold onto him right up until the start of the season. It's just too easy to see him changing his mind again, at this point, not to keep the roster spot open.
ESPN's coverage -- they're the ones that have had Favre's ear most of the last couple of years -- can be seen right here.
