Beanie Wells hurt at first practice

Posted Aug. 02 at 02:43 AM

One of the biggest concerns with rookie runner Beanie Wells is his injury history -- he missed three games and parts of others at Ohio State last season. That worry reared its head at Wells' very first practice yesterday.

Wells signed a rookie contract yesterday morning, then rolled an ankle during practice. He was carted off the field and his status is still uncertain. Early indications Sunday were that Wells avoided major injury and would be "day to day."

What is clear (aside from the risks of holding fantasy drafts in July) is that any missed time by Wells will benefit Tim Hightower. It was Hightower who was running as the starter yesterday, and that's a role it will be harder to take away from him if he's the healthier of the team's running backs.

The report from the team's website can be seen right here.
