Around the NFL
In the NFL, as anywhere in sports, one player's injury is another's opportunity. Maybe that will work in Brent Celek and Jeremy Maclin's favor this week.
Most people haven't yet subscribed to the idea of Brent Celek being a top-10 tight end this year; he's still going very late in drafts. Maybe rookie Cornelius Ingram's torn ACL in camp will lead to people coming around to the fact that Celek is basically all the Eagles have at the position. Celek was impressive enough last postseason that the team was comfortable letting L.J. Smith go. In 2009, he should be a big-time player at the position.
As for Maclin, he's got a bunch of wide receivers ahead of him, plus he's a rookie, so it's far from certain he'll make an impact this year. But DeSean Jackson suffered a hyper-extended knee in practice; he's fine, but maybe that will lead to more snaps for Maclin. According to a note at the bottom of this article, he'll be returning punts and kickoffs in the team's exhibition opener against New England this week.
