Top Runners, Top Run Ds: Who Wins?

Posted Oct. 29 at 03:45 AM

Irresistible force versus immovable object: What happens when a top running back collides with a top run defense? We’ll find out this week, when four of the league’s top 7 rushers and four of the league’s top 6 run defenses meet – and it’s happening within the confines of just two NFL games.

San Diego at Minnesota and Baltimore at Pittsburgh are the games, and fantasy owners of LaDainian Tomlinson, Adrian Peterson, Willis McGahee and Willie Parker are left to wonder how their nearly unbench-able stars will perform this week. Based on other recent meetings of top run defenses, there might not be a 100-yard rusher in the bunch.

The rushing performances of the leading rushers in meetings of top-6 run defenses (at the time) over the past two seasons are presented below.
