Around the NFL
The appeal of Pierre Thomas has grown over the preseason, with Reggie Bush sidelined or sore with calf or knee injuries. With the season just a week away, however, Bush is looking like the better starting option in week 1.
Thomas has a sprained knee, and yesterday called himself "questionable" for the opener. Listening to him talk, it sounds more likely that he won't play than he will.
"I really want to play in the opener -- but I don't want to cause any more damage," Thomas said. "I don't want to take a chance where I just play this game and don't play out the season. I want to be smart about it. My main focus is trying to get back for the first game. But if it's not ready, it's not ready. I can't push it."
Sure sounds like week 1 is more likely to feature a Reggie Bush-Mike Bell tandem than Thomas-Bush. If Bell is available in your league, now is the time to pick him up.
