Rookie Matthew Stafford and third-year quarterback Brady Quinn have struggled thus far, but don't look for a quick switch to (respectively) Daunte Culpepper and Derek Anderson. According to their coaches, the youngsters' jobs are safe.
"He's our quarterback," says Detroit head coach Jim Schwartz of Stafford.
And the Browns will stick with Quinn? "Yes, that's exactly right," says Eric Mangini.
If you're handicapping these things, Stafford seems like the better bet to remain in the lineup. Having made the decision to go with their top draft pick, the Lions would probably need to see him struggle for a lengthy period of time before pulling him from the lineup -- after all, he was expected to struggle.
In the case of Quinn, it's not as clear-cut that he's Cleveland's franchise quarterback -- he wasn't a No. 1 overall pick, and he wasn't selected by the current regime. For now, though, both quarterbacks' jobs appear to be safe.
