0-3 yes, stupid no

Posted Oct. 02 at 12:21 AM

I have a winless team. It happens. I drafted Larry Fitzgerald, Steve Slaton and Steve Smth with my top three picks, and there you go. I haven't given up on this team; I still think those guys will win me some games. But with Fitzgerald and Smith on byes, it will be tough to avoid falling to 0-4 this week.

Which means I'll have another week of fielding stupid trade offers from fellow owners who think that because I haven't won a game, I'm either an idiot, or I've quit.

Somebody offered me Jamal Lewis in a trade. Somebody else offered me Mike Bell. It's the kind of thing that hurts the soul.

I've gone back and forth on what to do with this team. I've considered a couple of trades, but I can't get value for any of these players right now. Fitzgerald, maybe, but I still think he'll be huge post-bye. Smith brings nothing better than my bench players; Slaton, who is on the eve of his best game of the season (versus Oakland) is not a guy I'm willing to move for trades based on his subpar start.

For now I'll ride it out, hope I get a win this week, hope Fitzgerald returns to monster form next week. And re-think some of my draft strategies next year, especially drafting wideouts whose value is tied to quarterbacks I had reservations about entering the season (like Kurt Warner and Jake Delhomme).

If you''re in the same boat, consider trades to get that first win -- but don't sell low if you think there's a chance those players will come back high. If you can get fair value, that's one thing. There's no point trading a guy like Smith, though, for a player who is only better if Smith remains in the tank.

And if you're NOT in the same boat, congratulations! Good luck with the rest of the year, and with your trades.

But if you see an owner out there at 0-3, and want to take away his one good player, at least consider that just maybe he's unlucky -- and that's all. Not an idiot, and not a quitter.

Because next year that 0-3 team might be you.

I know the feeling. I'm 0-3 with Slaton, Jacobs, Fitzgerald and Roddy White..

Yep, I hear ya. 0-3 with Fitzgerald, Welker, A. Gonzalez, Tony Gonzalez, P. Manning, Cedric Benson, Rice and McGahee, Felix Jones, and WRs Earl Bennett, Mario Manningham, etc. Perhaps I'm not objective, but that might be one of the nicest 0-3 teams going. Also one of the most injury-prone.

Welcome to the club, I'm 0-3 in two of three leagues.. despite being 4th in scoring in the both of them. Same gist of players as well, Fitz/SS/Roddy..

Tell me about it. Peyton, Grant, Rice, Benson, Steve Smith, Boldin, Shockey, Olson...ugh, if Burleson, Bennett, or Stucky can pull me through this week I will be thrilled...
