Around the NFL
If you've been keeping one of our favorite preseason wide receivers, Anthony Gonzalez, on your roster, it's probably OK to clear his spot for another player. It doesn't look as if Gonzalez will be returning to the lineup anytime soon.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Gonzalez underwent knee surgery yesterday. Apparently the knee he injured in the season opener was giving him problems after he resumed running.
No timetable yet on when he'll be able to return, but something like 2-4 weeks, minimum, seems likely. By the time he's back (if he is), it will be too late to help most fantasy owners -- especially given that he probably won't immediately push Pierre Garcon or Austin Collie out of the lineup. Both of those players have played very well in his absence.
