Viva Murillo!
We all have reasons to be thankful: Family, friends, your health, a job promotion, etc. I’m not going to talk about those things, because if you can’t find even one reason to be thankful, you need more help than a fantasy football column can provide. Anyone who has Internet access and can read this column has at least a couple of reasons to give thanks. Just my two cents.
But there are less-important (though fantasy-relevant) reasons to give thanks as you enjoy your annual dose of tryptophan. Here are just a few:
* Be thankful if you suffered two or fewer injuries to your starters this year. Believe me, you got off easy.
* Be thankful if you won a game because your kicker kicked five or more field-goals.
* Be thankful if your favorite NFL team drafted Adrian Peterson. You might be giving thanks for this several years down the road as well.
* Be thankful if your favorite NFL team had a head coaching vacancy and didn’t choose Norv Turner or Cam Cameron.
* Be thankful if you live in Green Bay or your name is Andy Richardson. Will the road to the Super Bowl really go through Lambeau?
* Be thankful if you aren’t wasting any roster spots on Travis Henry, Selvin Young or Andre Hall. They always seem to just barely justify their roster spot, which is aggravating.
* Be thankful if your favorite team doesn’t play the New England Patriots this year.
* Speaking of New England, be thankful if you drafted Tom Brady or Randy Moss. If you drafted Tom Brady and Randy Moss, let someone else have the dessert on Thursday. You’ve had plenty of sweet rewards already.
* Be thankful if you live in Cleveland. It might not be the most successful sports city, but they have something good in Romeo Crennel and the Browns.
* Be thankful if your favorite team is in the NFC South or AFC West. While the Miami Dolphins sit 10 games back in the NFC East (with six to play), everyone in those divisions are within three games of the division lead. Enjoy some playoff talk with your turkey, regardless of the team’s record.
* Be thankful for a full Thursday of football, college football games this weekend, the end of baseball (sorry, fans) and hopefully a few days off from work in between. This is a great time for sports fanatics; even the CFL’s Grey Cup is this weekend. Enjoy the bounty of athletics and have a Happy Thanksgiving.
Feel free to give thanks for the special fantasy performances of 2007 below. You can also reach Michael Murillo at vivamurillo@gmail.com.
