Stop the run, win a title?

Posted Jan. 04 at 10:50 PM

How important is stopping the run to winning a Super Bowl? We'll find out this postseason.

Seven of the NFL's 12 playoff teams ranked among the top 9 in stopping the run last season; another made it into the top 13. What's interesting is that the four playoff teams that didn't rank in the top half of the league in run defense include three of the four No. 1 or No. 2 seeds, and three of the popular favorites to make it to the Super Bowl.

The numbers for team run defense are below (playoff teams in bold).
