Around the NFL
Wade Phillips' Cowboys got crushed yesterday, and Norv Turner's Chargers got stunned. Both coaches, though, are nearly certain to return next season.
Bill Williamson's AFC West blog at ESPN.com indicates Turner will be signing an extension with the Chargers soon. Turner's shocking loss to the Jets is being lumped in with other San Diego postseason collapses, but in fairness Turner has actually won three playoff games in his three seasons in San Diego, losing to the undefeated Patriots in 2007, eventual Champion Steelers a year ago, and now the Jets.
As for Phillips, ESPN's Ed Werder is reporting that he, too, will return next season, although Dallas' dismal exit probably won't land him any kind of long-term extension.
One more coaching note: Minnesota's defensive performance yesterday enhances the chances of coordinator Leslie Frazier being the next head coach of the Buffalo Bills.
