Around the NFL
Matt Jones had a strong 2008 season with the Jaguars, and although it ended in suspension for a drug offense, it was a little surprising no team took a chance on him in 2009. Enter the Bengals, a team known for its willingness to take chances on players with checkered pasts.
The Bengals signed Jones on Friday, and it won't be that surprising if he's starting across from Chad Ochocinco next season. The Bengals desperately needed to upgrade a passing game that struggled down the stretch last year; they may not bring back Laveranues Coles, and Andre Caldwell, though he played well the first half of the season, didn't do much late.
Jones is just 26 years old, and gives the team the height (6-foot-6) and speed its receiving corps lacked after losing Chris Henry. Jones put up 65 receptions for 761 yards and 2 TDs despite being suspended for the last three games with the Jaguars two years ago.
