Around the NFL
Anybody who selected rookie LaDainian Tomlinson in their fantasy draft 9 years ago remembers how well that worked out. Perhaps history will repeat itself this year, given the strong possibility that the Chargers will line another rookie runner up as a starter this September.
With Tomlinson released and Darren Sproles likely gone as well -- ESPN's Adam Schefter reported yesterday that the team won't tender him, so he'll probably sign elsewhere -- running back tops San Diego's list of needs heading into the offseason. Perhaps they'll swing a trade, with rumors floating around involving Tashard Choice and even one suggesting DeAngelo Williams as a possibility.
More likely, though, the Chargers will use an early pick on a running back and put that player into the lineup of one of the league's best offenses next season. With San Diego picking at the bottom of the first round, it won't land the draft's top talent, but the back they do select (either there or perhaps with another early pick) might be going into a better situation than any other rookie.
The San Diego Union-Tribune discusses the team's offseason needs right here.
