Around the NFL
Depending on what you read, the Eagles will be ready to unload either Donovan McNabb or Michael Vick -- or perhaps both -- between now and the draft. The rumors make some sense; the team views Kevin Kolb as the quarterback of the future. But there may be more smoke than fire at this point.
Jeff McLane, who writes the Bird's Eye View blog for the Philadelphia Inquirer, thinks McNabb will be the team's opening day starter, with Kolb likely replacing him at some point during the season. Vick will be gone. He talks about it in a chat that can be seen at this link.
Les Bowen, who covers the team for the Philadelphia Daily News, is also skeptical about McNabb going anywhere. "I'll believe it when it happens", he wrote yesterday.
Like those writers, NFL.com's Jason La Canfora sees Vick as the quarterback likely to be dealt. However, he doesn't think it will happen before the preseason, at which point he thinks Vick's value will be higher than it is right now.
The rumors will no doubt continue to fly in the coming days, right up through the draft -- be prepared to hear a lot about McNabb or Vick being dealt that weekend, assuming they're still with the Eagles then. But year after year, there's far more talk about trades going down on draft day than typically occur.
