Around the NFL
Could Adrian Peterson, the consensus No. 1 fantasy pick in each of the last two seasons, be backed up next season by LaDainian Tomlinson, the top fantasy pick for most of the decade prior to that? Maybe so.
According to this report in the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, the Vikings have a "genuine interest" in adding Tomlinson as Peterson's backup, replacing the departed Chester Taylor. If that happens, Tomlinson would primarily play on third downs, but would be in line to start if Peterson suffered an injury.
It's just talk right now, but the fit makes a degree of sense. Tomlinson wants to go to a team with a chance at winning a Super Bowl, and the Vikings have a need for a back with receiving ability out of the backfield. There doesn't appear to be much of a market for Tomlinson thus far.
Brian Westbrook has also been mentioned, but there's a feeling that Westbrook would prefer to sign with a team that doesn't play on artificial turf; easier on his balky knee.
