Kicking: Shayne Graham v. Dave Rayner

Posted Mar. 18 at 08:53 AM

The Bengals are taking a huge risk, I think, if they’re serious about replacing Shayne Graham with Dave Rayner. Graham may have come up with a couple of costly misses on short field goals against the Jets in the playoffs, but I don’t think Rayner is good enough on field goals.

Among all active kickers with at least 50 attempts, Rayner ranks last in accuracy, down at 71 percent (42 of 59). He’s kicked for five different teams and was out of the league last year.

Graham, on the other hand, has been more accurate than all but three other kickers. He’s an unrestricted free agent, but he’ll sign somewhere.
