Around the NFL
Terrell Owens is 36 and coming off his worst season as a starter, while Leon Washington will cost a second-round pick and is coming off a broken leg. According to their agents, though, both players are drawing interest on the free agent market.
Owens' agent, Drew Rosenhaus, claims that he's in "active discussions" with three teams about Owens. There's ample reason to be skeptical, but in fairness Rosenhaus' optimism regarding Owens was taken with a grain of salt a year ago, and Buffalo signed him a few days later.
A quick signing isn't likely this year, however; Rosenhaus conceded that Owens might not sign until "right before training camp."
As for Washington, who hasn't signed his restricted free agent tender and thus won't be participating in the team's offseason training activities, his agent tells the New York Daily News that "We have some interest out there in Leon."
Washington was tendered at the second-round level and is still rehabbing his leg injury, but the possibility of losing him to restricted free agency may also have played a part in the team's interest in LaDainian Tomlinson.
As with Owens, Washington's agent doesn't think anything will happen for a little while. The deadline for signing restricted free agents is April 15, and those extra three weeks will give Washington more time to get healthy, and possibly interest teams looking for a running back and Pro Bowl returner.
