Around the NFL
The Brandon Marshall-Denver Broncos marriage is probably in its final weeks, with Seattle the most frequently rumored destination. Based on an article in yesterday's Denver Post, that seems like an accurate guess.
"There has been some talk," conceded head coach Pete Carroll. "But it's very preliminary." Marshall would cost a first-round pick to sign at his restricted free agent tender, but with Seattle picking 6th and 14th, the Seahawks are likely hoping to work out some lesser compensation to get a deal done. (Not that their deal for Charlie Whitehurst necessarily suggests any kind of shrewd negotiating skills.)
A dark-horse possibility,, according to the story, is Washington, given that new coach Mike Shanahan is very familiar with Marshall's ability. Shanahan didn't exactly dismiss the idea, saying, "You'll just have to wait and see. Can't share that with you."
There was a story out there last preseason that Shanahan planned to ship Marshall out of town prior to being fired by the Broncos, however, so it might not be worth putting too much stock in Shanahan's words. Seattle remains the most likely landing spot, with compensation probably the biggest stumbling block.
The story in the Post can be read right here.
