Playing around with the numbers, I notice that Tony Romo has tended to throw downfield more often than other quarterbacks. In fact, he's been more of a downfield thrower than any other quarterback over the last three years.
The numbers are below. They show all quarterbacks who've attempted at least 500 passes in the last three years. For each of those guys, the number shown is the average yards per pass completion.
Romo comes in at No. 1 on this list, more than a yard above the league average.

It looks like I posted this one a few hours too soon. With the Cowboys having drafted Dez Bryant, I'll bet that Tony Romo ranks in the top couple in yards-per-completion again next year. The Dallas wide receivers averaged a league-high 16.2 yards per catch last year, and now they've just added a guy who might be a better deep threat than anyone on their roster.
