Around the NFL
It's said you can't teach an old dog new tricks, but Al Davis' age hasn't prevented him from learning when it's time to admit a mistake. The Raiders have officially kicked JaMarcus Russell to the curb, just three years after drafting him No. 1 overall.
NFL.com's story about it can be seen right here. In case anyone doubted whether Jason Campbell would be Oakland's starter this season, wonder no longer.
I think it's fair to call Russell a bigger bust than Ryan Leaf, whose name often comes up in such discussions. Leaf stuck around just as long in San Diego as Russell did in Oakland, and he caught on with other teams, too; Dallas for a season, plus preseason training camps with Tampa Bay and Seattle (if memory serves). It remains to be seen if Russell will.

The arrogant jerk? Or the fat, lazy guy? It's a tough call. I'm putting JaMarcus in the No. 1 spot. He was selected one spot earlier, which helps, and he really won me over when he was spotted at a basketball game earlier this year. He was courtside, covered in bling. Most notably, he was wearing a necklace with an oversized, diamond-encrusted figure of himself, arm cocked and ready to throw (with the word "chosen" behind it). After the season he had, that he was willing to wear that out in public, I thought that spoke volumes. And Russel talks as if he is a good qb, oblivious to all the evidence to the contrary. At least Leaf knew he stunk.

Shocker! I gotta rethink. I didn't realize he scored 8 more TDs.
