Around the NFL
Rookie minicamps were last weekend, and there were some wild reports coming out of Carolina. One was that Jimmy Clausen drew raves for his play. Another was that he irritated veteran teammates to the point that Steve Smith called him a "punk."
Which is correct? According to this blog in the Charlotte Observer, the Smith report is nonsense. At least from this, it doesn't sound like Smith has any problem with Clausen. As we know from history, if Smith has a problem with a teammate (e.g., Ken Lucas), he lets them know about it in a very direct fashion.
As for whether Clausen had a great minicamp, there are mixed reports on that, too. According to this camp report, Clausen, like most rookie quarterbacks, has a long way to go in learning the playbook.
But at least he doesn't appear in danger of being punched by Steve Smith.
