DeAngelo Williams in elite company

Posted Jul. 21 at 09:30 AM

Looking at DeAngelo Williams’ body of work, I notice that he’s one of the few guys who in back-to-back seasons has run for over 1,000 yards and averaged 5.0 yards per carry. That’s not easy to do.

As best as I can tell, only two backs have done it three years in a row – Jim Brown and Marshall Faulk. (Brown did it in his last three seasons, then walked away from pro football.) O.J. Simpson’s longest streak was two years.

By my count (and I think I got them all), it’s happened only eight times since the move to the 16-game season in 1978, with Faulk and Barry Sanders each doing it twice.
