The New Orleans Saints drafted tight end Jimmy Graham in the third round. The former basketball star is viewed as a project, but it sounds like he's getting the opportunity to grow up in a hurry.
Jeremy Shockey's hospitalization last week left the Saints a little thin at the position at their minicamp. And according to the team website, Graham got plenty of work with the first-team offense.
"He’s handling it well, especially for a rookie," says Sean Payton. "There's a lot to learn, but he's doing well."
Graham's very raw: he played just one season at Miami, catching only 17 passes. Five of those receptions, though, went for touchdowns; he's big (6-6, 260) and strong.
The Saints also have Shockey and David Thomas at the position; Graham makes more sense in a keeper format. Still, if you're looking for a final-round pick with some upside on draft day, he's a guy to at least consider.
