Around the NFL
The new coaching staff in Washington is scrapping Jim Zorn's offensive system. Thus far, Washington Post blogger Jason Reid sees good things for Chris Cooley, while hearing negative feedback on Devin Thomas.
In this blog entry, Reid says Cooley may see an expanded role in the offense this season, perhaps lining up more often as a wide receiver. Cooley says he "is running everything all the receivers run" in practices right now. If that's how things play out, concerns that Cooley would be losing reps to Fred Davis may be overblown; both guys could be on the field a lot.
On the flipside, early word on Devin Thomas is less than encouraging. Thomas has battled a hamstring injury, but when on the field he "hasn't displayed the type of play-after-play consistency the Shanahans like to see from that position."
It's early, but based on Reid's insights, it sounds like Thomas might be somewhat overvalued and Cooley undervalued in fantasy drafts -- at least so far.
