Around the NFL
We had a little squabble a few weeks back. Some readers want to see Kevin Kolb ranked up in the top half dozen among quarterbacks. Others want to go the more conservative route, ranking him in the range of 12th to 15th.
With that in mind, I see in the
Philadelphia Inquirer today that the Birds have Michael Vick running some Wildcat package. The "Spread Eagle", they're calling it.
"This is my role and this is what I'm going to be doing pretty much the majority of the season," Vick said. "Who knows, the role could expand a little bit, but if this is what it's going to be, then I'm going to have fun doing it."
I don't like it -- at least not if Kolb is on my fantasy team. If starts coming in when the ball is inside the 5, that could cost Kolb about a half-dozen touchdowns.
On my board, therefore, I'm keeping Kolb out of the top 10 among quarterbacks.

Vick wasn't very good at it last year. And he will not be any faster or quicker this year. I think the birds will use him more to keep him happy than for any on field benefit. Kolb's performance will keep Vick glued to the bench. He won't seriously hurt Kolb's value.

As a runner in short-yardage situations last year, Vick was good on 5 of 7 plays. That's 71 percent. The rest of the Philadelphia team went 20 of 34 on those plays (58 percent). To just move ahead under the assumption that Vick definitely won't be a factor, I think, is short-sighted.

Vermeil on watching Kolb, "Kolb was impressive. He is very accurate, throws a nice ball that's very easy to catch and keeps the recievers running when they catch it. That was impressive. Very impressive."
