Around the NFL
Carson Palmer is usually pretty loquacious in the preseason, talking up or down various players. He's criticized Chad Ochocinco's antics in the past, and last year praised Cedric Benson.
This year, Palmer likes what he sees so far from rookie tight end Jermaine Gresham. And his patience seems to be wearing thin with Ochocinco, who's been busy with a variety of non-football activities. You can read his comments at bengals.com.
Of Gresham, Palmer says, "I don't see a weakness. ... The sky's the limit for him. God has given him the natural physical tools and ability to do anything in this league." Palmer's enthusiasm can be taken with a grain of salt, but it's encouraging nonetheless.
In contrast, Palmer seems mildly annoyed by Ochcocinco -- as has been the case in the past. Although he says, "He’s a veteran guy. He’ll get the rust off and be ready to roll when he’s ready to roll" he also says Ochcocinco's absence hurts the team. "It's hard to work the offense without him. We’re looking for our No. 2 and No. 3 receivers without our No. 1 receiver.”
