Around the NFL
Matt Hasselbeck is barely getting drafted in fantasy leagues, perhaps in part because the team traded for Charlie Whitehurst and may be anxious to get him on the field. At least one Seattle-area beat writer thinks Hasselbeck has very little to worry about.
According to Dave Boling of the Tacoma News Tribune, Whitehurst is a long way from seeing the field. Boling thinks J.P. Losman, who was out of the league until signing with Oakland last December, is "far closer" to being game-ready than Whitehurst.
We were skeptical of Seattle's trade for Whitehurst; they gave up essentially a second-round pick for a quarterback who hadn't even shown anything in the preseason with San Diego.
But if Whitehurst ends up being Seattle's third-string quarterback this season behind Hasselbeck and Losman? That trade, and the subsequent 2-year, $8 million contract the Seahawks gave him, will look even worse.
For now, only an injury seems likely to keep Hasselbeck from missing any starts this season.

Yes, but with Hasselbeck, isn't an injury more or less guaranteed?

There's a decent chance. The last five years he's played 16, 12, 16, 7 and then 14 last year. I don't think he's a guy I'll be looking to draft even as a backup. Still, as a last-round No. 2, if you use an early pick on a guy like Brees or Manning, you could do worse.
