Around the NFL
The Dallas Cowboys' running back rotation is one of the major preseason questions. Dallas has three players at the position with talent, and one of the league's best offenses. It could have a fantasy star at the position.
The key word there, however, is "could." Dallas Morning News beat writer Todd Archer doesn't expect any of the backs to put up huge numbers. That was his take in a chat at the newspaper's web site yesterday.
Archer believes Marion Barber will continue to start, but that Felix Jones will get more carries. His projection for Jones is about 185 carries and 888 rushing yards, with 6 TDs. Barber presumably would have more TDs, but fewer attempts and yards.
Archer also calls Tashard Choice "the most complete back they have," but doesn't foresee a big role for him.
When you add in receiving production, of course, Jones could still be a quality fantasy option even if Archer is right about his number of carries, while Barber might carry the most value in a TD-only format. It should be noted, however, that Barber is also a capable receiver. He had 26 receptions a year ago, compared to 19 for Jones.
This sounds, however, like a situation better avoided than pursued in fantasy drafts, unless one of them slips too far.

Gotta have Jones in challagnge leagues because he is cheap and will have great ypc. I think it will be over 5 ypc.

David, Jones is not cheap in FC challenge. Jones salary is 1350. For a player with that number and only carrying the ball 185 times; I will look for someone else.

It's not rocket science, but my fingers are crossed on Felix Jones. The old saying of being lucky is better than good......

Duane, My comments in Ian's mailbag were more on trying to gauge his outlook on Jones's actual potential. When my keeper league drafts this year, I'm going to have an opportunity to draft two of the following RB's out of Felix, Marion, R.Brown, J.Addai, J.Stewart and J.Best. None of them will be keepable if I take them in the first three rounds. I was leaning more toward the "old faithfull's " of Addai and Brown, but after reading your comments on Felix, I was thinking about possible drafting both dallas backs and figuring I was set when one emerged. Felix seems to have everything you need to win a league, except the carries. If you took Felix over Mendenhall and Green, I figured you wouldn't touch Brown or Addai, or would you....?

There was a lively debate in my camp about Addai and F.Jones. My people wanted Addai, but since I had picked Manning and Wayne with my first two picks I felt I was getting too top heavy with Colts. Jones won't get the carries of Greene and Mendenhall, but one of the Jones carries could be a fifty yd td. The tenth round still had A.Collie sitting there and even though it meant another Colt, I felt I couldn't pass him by. ESP would really be handy, but I lean toward the Cowboy RB's over the Colt RB's. The Colts have been last in rushing for the last two years. I could go on and on, but I think you can see my reasoning.

Ronnie "lisfranc" Brown never factored in the argument?
