Around the NFL
2009 first-rounder Brandon Pettigrew tore his ACL last Thanksgiving, plus the Lions traded for Tony Scheffler in the offseason. Those facts are part of why Pettigrew is barely sneaking into the top 20 at the position in early drafts.
But according to The Detroit News, Pettigrew will be medically cleared to practice fully by the end of the month. If he's healthy in the exhibitions, he has a chance to emerge as a nice late-round option at the position.
Scheffler might be a better receiver, but Pettigrew is a more complete player -- and was starting to show something as a receiver prior to getting hurt. In three full games before getting hurt, Pettigrew caught 15 passes for 165 yards and 2 TDs.
Not a guy to target, but somebody to consider in those last rounds of drafts in deeper league as a backup with upside.
