Around the NFL
Sidney Rice took some heat from former Viking Cris Carter this week, for pulling out of Larry Fitzgerald's receiving camp. Turns out that rather than be concerned about Rice's work ethic, his absence might have to do with a lingering injury.
According to a report in the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, Rice has a lingering hip injury suffered in last year's playoffs. That, rather than any unwillingness to go through the rigors of Fitzgerald's annual camp, is why he's sitting out.
That camp is credited with helping Rice to his breakout season last year, which led to Carter's criticism. The possibility that Rice is hurt is a bigger deal, although he says he'll be OK for camp.
"Everything is all right," he said yesterday. "I'll be ready to go."
Best guess? The injury isn't a major deal, but his agent brought it up to save Rice some face after Carter's criticism. It's something to monitor, but odds are he'll be good to go when training camp starts.
