Around the NFL
Chris Johnson's status as the No. 1 or 2 overall pick in virtually every fantasy draft is secure. In 2010, at least, there will be no holdout for the Titan star.
That's the word from multiple sources, reported at this link. The bottom line is that Johnson gets a nice salary increase for the upcoming season, and then both sides will revisit things, most likely, next offseason.
It looks like a nice deal for the Titans, who didn't have to make a long-term commitment yet but still own Johnson's rights for three more years. They also avoid a possible training camp holdout of their best player by far.
Johnson, meanwhile, gets a one-year salary bump, then a chance to strike it rich next year without any acrimony this offseason.
Hopefully the Chargers and Vincent Jackson are taking note: compromise can be a good thing that benefits everyone.
