Around the NFL
The Cardinals travel to St. Louis this week, facing a defense that gave up 24 rushing touchdowns a year ago, tied for the league-worst. In the Weekly we talked about how it's a good matchup for both Beanie Wells and Tim Hightower, even in a committee. Both players scored in the home game last year, while Wells scored and Hightower went over 100 yards at St. Louis.
Turns out it might end up being a great matchup for only one of them, Hightower. Wells is still bothered by a sore knee after he banged it in the preseason, and didn't practice on Wednesday or Thursday.
Ken Whisenhunt spoke of not wanting to rush Wells back ("If we feel Beanie has made enough progress by Sunday, he will play. If we don’t, like I said, I feel strongly about who we have at the position"), and have something turn into a lingering injury. If you've got Wells in the lineup, make sure you've got another option you can switch to. And if you don't have Hightower active, be ready to put him in the lineup. If Wells sits out, Hightower could be one of the top running backs this week.
