Chris Johnson / runs of 40-plus yards

Posted Sep. 19 at 12:13 AM

A reader, Jared Cravy, asked about how often Chris Johnson can be expected to bust loose for a run of 40-plus yards. Specifically, he wanted to know the batting average for these kind of big plays.

I’ve got that data below. Rather than doing it as a percentage, I’ve listed average number of attempts. Felix Jones of Dallas, for last year, was the leader, with 4 runs of 40 yards in 116 attempts – 1 per 29 attempts. Chris Johnson is among the leaders, but he’s had a few backs ahead of him in each of the last two years.

Johnson just had an 85-yard TD run wiped out by a penalty....

Thanks for reminding me of the $10 I lost on a prop bet Andy.
